Preparing and Sharing in the Kitchen:

An incredible dessert prepared in the kitchen for the volunteers and supporters lunch, December 2011

September 1st 2011
Well, the day has finally come and we are now in our new kitchen and enjoying the facilities immensely. We are really happy with the work of arhcitects Kyra Wood and David Kilpatrick in bringing together this space in such a dramatic but pragmatic way. We now have a beautiful, well lit, well insulated and open work space that will bring kids and teachers wonderful food learning opportunities.

With stainless sinks, sensational splashbacks and funky finishes, the kitchen features gas and electric cooktops, four underbench ovens, disabled access and a large harvest table.

We have also loved the new windows which bring in an incredible sense of light and interest...

Now it is time to get cracking and start cooking!

At the moment, as you can see, our kitchen is getting closer to completion everyday - first fix electrical and plumbing is complete and the sound absorbing wall and ceiling sheets are going in.

The rear wall windows create a great feature and allow the penetration of more natural light into the kitchen and surrounding work spaces.

The menu from the first cooking session in the temporary kitchen was delicious - featuring pumpkin, potato, cos lettuce and herbs grown by the children in the garden.

Thanks to the generosity of the school community and Drake Foodland Aldinga, we were able to purchase a range of quality cookware as seen in this photo!
